Vladimir Putin honours staff of Udokan Copper with state awards

Russian President Vladimir Putin has recognised the achievements of employees of Udokan Copper, the company developing one of the world’s largest copper deposits, located in the northern part of the Trans-Baikal Region.

The Governor of the Trans-Baikal Region, Alexander Osipov, presented the state awards – including Medals of the Order for Services to the Fatherland (2nd Class), Medals for the Development of Siberia and the Far East, as well as Presidential Certificates of Honour and Letters of Gratitude – to 20 Udokan Copper employees on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation. “Each of the award recipients is an example of dedication, professionalism and responsibility,” said Governor Osipov. “Udokan Copper is one of our key partners in developing and strengthening Trans-Baikal’s position and improving the quality of life of our residents. I would like to congratulate you on these well-deserved honours, thank you for your work and wish you continued success.” Each of the 20 recipients has decades of experience in the mining and metallurgical industry, has made a significant contribution to the construction and launch of the Udokan mining and processing plant, and continues to play an important role in improving the enterprise’s production performance. “Udokan is the result of the coordinated work of thousands of people, of government support, and of the vision and deep conviction of the company’s founder and shareholders,” said Alexey Yaschuk, CEO of Udokan Copper. “This project has become not just a large-scale construction site but a true test of strength, professionalism and cohesion. This award belongs to everyone who, since the 1950s, has contributed to creating the Udokan mining and processing plant – the geologists, mining engineers, builders and metallurgists. It was through their labour, in a region with harsh climatic conditions – permafrost and low temperatures – that this outstanding enterprise was built. I would like to thank and congratulate each of you!" Udokan Copper currently employs around 5 thousand people, with an additional 20 thousand jobs supported in related sectors. The company is one of the largest taxpayers in the Trans-Baikal Region.
